Created On: 12/02/2012 02:55:40 !A KIDNAP GANG IS TARGETTING HOUSE SELLERS!
My wife is the latest victim of a gang specializing in kidnapping house sellers for ransom or cash.
The kidnappers use a woman as their front. Name “Lyn” or some other. Only ID offered is postal ID – useless.
Her story can be that her daughter(s) live in Japan, they will visit “soon” to buy a house. Your house is perfectly placed!
If they inspect the house (“Lyn” plus 1, 2 or 3 male “relatives”), be sure to have plenty of people around, preferably armed males. If the house indicates prosperity of the owner (e.g. luxury furnishings, big TV, hi-fi etc.) that may make you a target – they will assume you are rich, tell you the house is perfect and negotiate a price. To make it realistic, she may even let you know “confidentially” that she is over-pricing to her daughter(s) for some 100,000s of pesos. Note or memorise their transport, make, age, colour, plate number etc. Give details to friends, neighbours or relatives.
“Lyn” may then try to befriend the wife, suggesting visits to her place, coffee meetings etc. – she may call the wife “Sis” and try to win her confidence and trust. YOU HAVE THEN BEEN TARGETTED!!
What to do now? You really want to sell the house – she may be real. OK, if she’s real, 1. Insist on proper ID – passport, driving licence, or other, with a photo or 2. Insist on a photo together. Get a true copy and give copies to relatives. She may refuse - WHY? Because it will spoil their plan if they can be traced.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SEVERAL OTHER FRIENDS, NEIGHBOURS OR RELATIVES AROUND WHEN MEETING LYN OR HER RELATIVE(S). TRYING TO PHOTOGRAPH THEM COULD BE DANGEROUS.
My dear wife fell into their trap, was kidnapped in broad daylight in a large public place (Burnham Park in Baguio). She had her ATM card with her and was forced to disclose the PIN. The gang used the card for 5 days in various banks until the card was captured on our bank’s instructions. We did not receive any ransom demand and now fear for my wife’s life as she has been missing without contact for 3 weeks.
The gang could operate anywhere in Philippines or even in other countries.
If you are using a sales agent (we were not), instruct them to obtain a true copy of valid ID with photo for any and all viewers and try to get e-mail addresses, car descriptions and registrations and any other useful “locating info”. If they are genuine, they should not object.
If you have any suspicious activity or experience similar to the above, please e-mail details to my wife’s box firstname.lastname@example.org
Together, maybe we can stop this gang.
From a grieving husband.
